List of ICC T20 World Cup 2022 Qualifying Teams – (Officially Confirmed)

ICC T20 World Cup 2022 is all set to start from 16th October in Australia. A total of 16 teams have qualified for the 8th Season of T20 World Cup. T20 WC is divided into two stages. The first stage is called Round 1 stage in which teams from ICC T20 World Cup qualifiers tournament are placed.

Furthermore, the Round 1 stage in also subdivided into two Groups Group A and Group B. Here is all the detailed information about ICC T20 Qualifying Teams.

ICC T20 World Cup 2022 Qualifying Teams

As per the format of ICC T20 World Cup, Eight teams qualified for the 8th Season of T20 WC after competing in the ICC T20 World Cup qualifiers that took place from 16th October 2022.

The Final four teams that made it to the T20 World Cup qualifying round were Sri Lanka, West Indies, Scotland, and Namibia, Zimbabwe, Netherlands, UAE, and Ireland

ICC has divided all these teams into two subgroups called Group A and Group B. Only four teams (2 Teams from Each Group) from Round 1 stage will qualify for the Super 12 stage in the T20 World Cup 2022 tournament as per rules of ICC.

So, all these teams will be contesting to make it to the Super 12 stage. Here is how each qualifying team is subdivided into the Round 1 Groups.

1#. Sri Lanka

As per rules, Sri Lanka did not qualified among the eight top ranked countries on ICC T20 Team Rankings before the ICC T20 World Cup qualifying tournament.

Therefore, ICC placed Sri Lanka into the Group A of Round 1 Stage. This is pretty shameful for Sri Lankan cricket team, as they once held the T20 World Title in 2012 and now they have to compete with the other qualifying teams in the Round 1 Stage.

2#. Ireland

Ireland were not among the top eight ranked teams in ICC T20 Teams rankings before T20 World Cup. Therefore, they had to compete in the ICC T20 World Cup qualifiers that took place at Australia.

Ireland finished in the qualifying tournament after defeating Namibia in the 3rd place play off match by 27 runs. Now, they are placed in Group B of Round 1 stage in T20 World Cup among West Indies, Scotland, Zimabawe.

3#. Netherlands

Netherlands contested in the ICC T20 World Cup qualifiers to qualify to the T20 World Cup 2022. They finished at the top of the table after defeating Papua New Guinea in the final match of T20 WC Qualifiers.

Therefore, they qualified for the T20 World Cup. Now, they are paced in Group A of Round 1 stage in T20 World Cup among Sri Lanka, Namibia, and UAE.

4# Namibia

Namibia are one of the six qualifying teams that finally made it to the T20 World Cup 1st Round after competing in the T20 World Cup 2022 qualifiers. They finished 4th after losing the 3rd Place play off match against Ireland by 27 runs.

However, they were among the top six teams that finished at the top of the table after the end of T20 World Cup Qualifiers tournament. Now, they are placed among Netherlands, Sri Lanka and UAE in Group A of Round 1 stage.

5#. West Indies

West Indies due to poor cricketing performance failed to book their place in the top-8 qualifying sides of ICC T20 World Cup. Now, they will appear in group stage rounds before joining the main event.

The team is placed in Group B among Scotland, Zimbabwe, and Ireland. They need to win atleast two games to qualify for the Super-12 rounds. No doubt, West Indies holds experienced and ballastic T20 squad.

6#. UAE

UAE contested in T20 World Cup Qualifiers tournament as the host nation. They were among the top six teams that after battling in the qualifying tournament made it to the T20 World Cup.

Therefore, they secured the 6th place in the T20 World Cup qualifiers tournament. Now, they are placed in Group A of Round 1 stage by ICC among Sri Lanka, Namibia, and Netherlands.

7#. Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe finished 2nd in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 Qualifiers tournament.  Now, they are placed in Group B of Round 1 stage among West Indies, Ireland and Scotland. They will need to win 2-games to qualify for the main rounds.

The team is hoping to deliver their level best during this event. No doubt, they holds pretty experienced players. However, Zimbabwe needs to focus their main-bowling attack to survive this event.

Scotland were among the six top teams in ICC T20 World Cup 2022 Qualifiers tournament that reached the T20 World Cup 2022 tournament.

They defeated the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers host nation Oman in the 5th place play off match by 5 wickets. Therefore, Scotland secured the 5th position in the qualifying tournament. Now, they are placed in Group B of Round 1 Stage among West Indies, Zimbabwe and Ireland.

Super 12 Stage

As per the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 rules, eight teams that ranked top on the ICC T20 Team Rankings before the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers, made it to the Super 12 Stage. These teams include Australia, New Zealand, England, Bangladesh, South Africa, India, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

ICC has further divided these eight teams into two sub Groups Called Group 1 and Group 2. Both groups will be joined by two qualifying teams at the end of 1st Round. Here is how each Group in Super 12 stage has been subdivided.

#9. Australia

Despite winning the ICC Cricket World Cup for record five times, Australia have never been able to win the T20 World Cup title. They qualified for the semi finals in two T20 World Cups and came runner up in the third tournament. However, one of the most dominating teams have yet to claim their first T20 title.

Australia are currently ranked 7th on the ICC T20 Team rankings. They secured the best spot among the top eight teams on ICC T20 Team Rankings ahead of ICC T20 World Cup 2022 qualifiers. Therefore, they directly qualified for the Super 12 stage as per the rules of T20 World Cup.

ICC have placed Australia in Group 1 of the Super 12 stage among England, New Zealand, Afghanistan. They will be later joined by B1 and A2 teams from the 1st round in Group 2.

10#. England

Former T20 World Champions England are currently ranked 1st on the ICC T20 Team rankings. They secured the best place among the top eight sides on the ICC T20 Team Rankings ahead of Qualifier tournament. Therefore, they were allowed to get included in the Super 12 stage.

They have been placed in the Group 1 of Super 12 stage among Australia, New Zealand, and Afghanistan. England will be later joined by B1 and A 2 teams from the 1st Round in the Group 2.

11#. South Africa

Despite qualifying for the semi-finals in the multiple T20 World Cups tournaments, South Africa have never won the T20 World Cup title. They are one of the few Test playing nations that yet have to win their first T20 World Cup. South Africa are currently ranked 5th on the ICC T20 Team Rankings.

They secured a good spot on the ICC T20 Team rankings ahead of the Qualifiers tournament. So, they directly qualified for the T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 stage. South Africa are placed in Group 1 of the Super 12 stage with India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and two other qualifying teams from Round 1 stage.

12#. Bangladesh

After displaying wonderful performance during the last current season, Bangladesh has successful bag their place in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup. The team is placed in Group 2 among Pakistan, India, and South Africa.

Bangladesh is a strong candidate for the upcoming event. However, they remained unlucky during previous editions of World Cup. However, their current squad have skills and passion to take down any other emerging side.

13#. Afghanistan

Afghanistan were one of the luckiest teams that straightforwardly made it to the T20 World Cup Super 12 stage. As per T20 World Cup rules, Afghanistan ranked among the top eight teams on ICC T20 Team rankings before the T20 World Cup qualifiers tournament.

Therefore, they were allowed to join the Super 12 stage. Afghanistan are placed in Group 2 of the Super 12 stage with India, Pakistan, New Zealand and two other qualifying teams.

14#. India

India became the first ever T20 World Cup champions in the inaugural season, after defeating Pakistan in the final of T20 World Cup 2007. Since then, India is looking forward to reclaim the title.

They are currently ranked 2nd on ICC T20 Team Rankings. Also, they were among the top eight sides that secured top eight positions on ICC T20 Team rankings ahead of T20 World Cup qualifiers tournament. Therefore, ICC allocated Group 2 of the Super 12 stage to the Indian Cricket team.

India are placed in Group 2 of Super 12 Stage with Pakistan, South AfRICA, Bangladesh and two other qualifying teams.

15#. Pakistan

Since the inaugural season, Pakistan have been one of the dominating sides to ever the play the tournament. They won the T20 World Cup in 2009 and they were runner up in the inaugural season against India. Not only this, they also qualified for the semi finals in 2010 and 2012 T20 World Cups tournament.

Given their previous T20 World Cup records, Pakistan ended up among the top eight teams on ICC T20 Team rankings ahead of T20 World Cup qualifiers. Therefore, they directly qualified for the Super 12 stage. Pakistan are placed in Group 2 of Super 12 stage by ICC with India, South Africa, and Bangladesh.

16#. New Zealand

New Zealand qualified for the semi-finals for two times in T20 World Cup tournaments, but never made it to the finals. They are currently ranked 4th on ICC T20 Team Rankings. Moreover, New Zealand also scored one of the top eight placed on ICC T20 Team Rankings ahead of T20 WC Qualifiers tournament. Therefore, ICC placed them into the Super 12 Stage.

New Zealand are included in the Group 1 of Super 12 stage with England, Afghanistan, Australia and two other qualifying teams.
